Terrarium Care

Sealed terrariums do not want to be kept in direct sunlight for long periods of time. Excessive light and heat will essentially cook your terrarium.
Keep your terrarium in bright indirect light. A windowsill on a north or east facing window works great. Or far enough away from a west or south facing window that it doesn’t receive direct sunlight. Grow lights also work perfectly for terrariums!

This is a bit of a complex question. Watering times can vary greatly between terrariums. An open terrarium or one with a loose lid evaporates water faster than one with a tight lid.
Most of the terrariums we make can go at least 2-3 months between watering while others can go up to a year or longer. It’s easiest to look for the signs of a terrarium in need of watering.
The soil will start to turn light and airy as it begins to dry up, the terrarium will have absolutely zero condensation on it and the moss will start to look/feel dry. At that point, take a spray bottle and water until the soil and moss is well saturated. Never pour water into your terrarium.

Distilled water is recommended for watering your terrarium.

Excessive fogginess can be a sign your terrariums is getting too much light or water. Leave your terrarium open for a few hours to help some of the water evaporate out, and you can even wipe down the inside with a paper towel or microfiber cloth. Try adjusting the amount of light your terrarium receives or try watering less often!

Mold thrives in warm/damp environments, so it is often a sign of overwatering or excessive sunlight/heat.
If you find a small amount of mold in your terrarium, try dipping a cotton swab in some hydrogen peroxide and dab the affected area. Leave your terrarium open for a few hours to allow it to air out.
If your terrarium has a large amount of mold, mix 5 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide and spray throughout the terrarium. Leave your terrarium open for 24 hours.
